RELATIONSHIPS ARE COMPLICATED

Play With Me

Your nonchalance hurts me.
Your attention is meant to flatter me.
You are my toy, my puppet.
I’ll pick you up and play with you
And put you down when I want to.
Just sit there and look pretty
And don’t rock the boat.
I’ll bake your biscuits and fetch your drink
If you pick me flowers and kiss me softly.
You’ve painted your picture and whether I like it or not,
It is your interpretation and it’s always right.
You’re always right.
Always.
I can adapt.
But one must be inflexible to shield oneself from pain and love
And life.
