My Music
30 Seconds to Mars
I decided to do a page as a tribute to my current favorite (favorite current) band. I'm coming to believe that the reason music is so powerful is that listening to the right music can actually put you into a sort of transcendental trance, where your body and the music vibrate on the same frequency.
You know when you've found the right music because you become more creative & emotional as you listen to it, and you'll usually feel compelled to act on your creativity. I've been aware for some time that the post-grunge, hard-rock frequency is what resonates with my personality the best. I supplement it with other types of music, but keep coming back to this emotional, hard-rocking music.

I first saw 30STM opening for an Incubus concert in Bozeman, MT, and I was immediately impressed with the flawless, artsy performance & tantalizing lyrics. I bought the CD and had the song "End of the Beginning" autographed by lead singer Jared Leto. The album was a favorite on rotation in the varsity weight room for weeks, and I spent many hours after school in my car with my pride & joy Rockford Fosgate delivering the music directly through my skin. I couldn't even tell you the names of all the songs on the first album because I would just listen beginning to end every time; it was seamless.
The followup to the band's self-titled debut, "A Beautiful Lie," was seemingly more practical, more "MTV," and less high-concept, which has given it a wider audience. However, they still maintained most of what appealed to me about the first album: Innovative drumming, enrapturing guitars, and clear, powerful vocals, mixed with lyrics that always leave room for the imagination. I enjoyed their cover of Bjork's "Hunter," the beat on "A Beautiful Lie," and the pace of "Fantasy," to name a few.
What I love about this band is that their albums are so well-thought-out...it is self-evident how meticulously produced they are. I've seen them 4 times in concert (Montana, Las Vegas, Washington D.C., and Fresno) and although I thought their first tour was better produced, it is always inspiring just to be in the same room with them.
Long live 30 Seconds to Mars!
